PLB Duct Pipes Manufacturers and Suppliers
BERLIA PIPES manufactures PLB Duct Pipes from High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) that are coated inside with silicon for permanent lubrication, aiding in easy installation as conduits for underground cabling. These pipes are produced at our state-of-the-art extrusion plants as per DOT Specification GR/CDS-08/02 Nov. 2004 amendments.
PLB Pipes are used as underground cable conduits for optical fiber cables, communication cables, etc., and are suitable for cable installation by blowing or pulling by rope techniques.
'BERLIA PIPES' was among the very first manufacturers to acquire the technology and equipment for establishing a complete manufacturing facility for PLB HDPE Ducts.
At BERLIA PIPES, PLB Pipes (duct pipes) are manufactured using an ultra-violet (UV) stabilized grade of HDPE with required Anti-Oxidant content and other recommended additives. The inner layer of ducts is duly silicon coated, which minimizes friction between the OFC and the duct during the cable blowing process, enabling smooth installation of OFC in the duct without damaging the cable fibre.
Berlia PLB Duct Pipes are engineered for superior performance and safety. Designed to be anti-rodent, these pipes ensure durability by resisting damage from pests. Additionally, they are non-flammable and fire-retardant, providing an extra layer of safety in critical installations. Choose Berlia for reliable and secure piping solutions.

Applications
COM-line Ducts are suitable for installation in the field dirt trenches, under sidewalks, roads, within communication networks, between communication centers and between cities. They can also be used in branch networks between cells, distribution cabinets, poles, in walls and within subterranean networks of homes, allowing the insertion of communication cables-optical or copper, as well as TV/cable aluminum coaxial cables. Cables can be inserted in through the pipe by blowing, with an internal air-pressure up to eight bars.
HDPE PLB Ducts: The Gold Standard for OFC Networks
TEC is the technical wing of the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. It formulates standards for telecom equipment. When a PLB duct is TEC-approved, it means the product has been independently tested and verified to meet stringent quality, performance, and durability standards
Here is what makes them different from standard conduits:
- Two-Layer Construction: These are not simple pipes. They feature a co-extruded inner layer made of a friction-reducing polymeric material that is permanent and integral with the outer HDPE layer
- The "PLB" Advantage: This inner layer is a solid, permanent lubricant, usually white in color, that minimizes the Internal Coefficient of Friction (ICF). This is crucial for modern cable installation methods like air blowing, allowing cables to glide smoothly over long distances without damage
- Permanent, Not Temporary: The lubricant is designed to last the life of the duct over 50 years without coming out or degrading during storage, installation, or service
Standard Sizes for Every Application
To cater to different cable sizes and network densities, TEC specifications detail a few standard duct sizes . The most common sizes you will see in the market are:
-
32/26 mm: Ideal for smaller fiber counts.
-
40/33 mm: The industry workhorse, suitable for most standard OFC installations.
-
50/42 mm: Used for larger cables or where future expansion is planned.
The first number is the outer diameter (OD), and the second is the inner diameter (ID). For instance, a 40/33 mm duct has an outer diameter of 40 mm and an inner diameter of 33 mm
The Critical Compliance Standards (Why TEC Matters)
A TEC-approved PLB duct is not just about the "inner layer." It must pass a rigorous battery of tests. The primary governing document is TEC/GR/FA/CDS-008/04/AUG-19
Furthermore, the raw materials used must comply with IS 4984 and IS 7328 standards . This ensures the HDPE used has the right density, Melt Flow Rate (MFR), and tensile strength to withstand environmental stress.
Key tests include:
-
Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESCR): Tested per ASTM D-1693 to ensure long-term reliability and no brittle failure .
-
Impact and Crush Resistance: The duct must withstand heavy earth loads and impact during installation without cracking or splitting .
-
Reversion Test: Ensures dimensional stability of the duct when exposed to heat .
-
Ovality Test: Guarantees the duct remains round, which is vital for efficient cable blowing
How are the Ducts Joined?
Maintaining a continuous, smooth pathway is essential. PLB ducts are typically joined using two methods:
-
Push-Fit Couplers: These plastic couplers create a smooth, butt joint between two ducts. They are designed to be airtight and watertight, often tested to withstand a pressure of 10 kg/cm² for 2 hours .
-
Heat-Shrinkable Sleeves: Used for an additional layer of protection and sealing at the joint, ensuring the inner surface remains step-free
Understanding these standards is crucial for making informed procurement decisions. In a landscape where TEC and TSEC approvals are the gold standard, Berlia Pipes stands out by manufacturing PLB-HDPE ducts that adhere to these strict specifications .
From using UV-stabilized HDPE to ensuring a silicon-coated inner layer for permanent lubrication, our ducts are engineered for smooth OFC installation and a service life exceeding 50 years. When you choose Berlia, you are not just buying a duct; you are investing in peace of mind and network reliability
